Dubai’s cultural landscape thrives on moments of exchange — when stories, sounds and traditions travel across borders and find new meaning. This December, that spirit comes alive with A Fairytale for Christmas, an Irish festive concert set to take over New Covent Garden at Mall of the Emirates from 19 to 21 December.

More than a seasonal performance, the show is a tribute to Ireland’s musical storytelling — where folk traditions, humour and heartfelt emotion coexist. After multiple sell-out tours internationally, the production arrives in Dubai as a timely reminder that Christmas, at its core, is about shared experience.

The evening unfolds through a carefully curated repertoire that blends familiar festive melodies with songs deeply rooted in Irish culture. Classics such as Driving Home for Christmas, Step Into Christmas and Oh Holy Night sit alongside the enduring Fairytale of New York, a song that has long captured the complexities, warmth and realism of the season.

Equally central to the performance are traditional Irish sing-alongs — The Galway Girl, The Irish Rover, Dirty Old Town and The Black Velvet Band — delivered with an infectious energy that invites audience participation. It’s this balance between performance and collective celebration that gives the show its cultural resonance.
