When French real estate entrepreneur Mouna Ayoub began collecting haute couture over four decades ago, she wasn't simply acquiring beautiful clothes. She was assembling what would become one of the world's most significant private fashion collections, a carefully curated archive that tells the story of modern couture through the singular lens of Maison Christian Dior.

Now, on Thursday, January 29, a remarkable chapter of that collection will find new homes as Kerry Taylor Auctions, in collaboration with Maurice Auction, presents 126 exceptional pieces from Ayoub's legendary wardrobe at Hôtel Le Bristol Paris.

From a personal archive believed to contain roughly 2,700 pieces, Ayoub has selected 126 Christian Dior haute couture creations spanning nearly four decades, from 1984 to 2022. This carefully assembled collection represents the work of five successive creative directors: Marc Bohan (1960–1989), Gianfranco Ferré (1989– 1997), John Galliano (1997–2011), Raf Simons (2012–2015) and Maria Grazia Chiuri (2016–2025). Together, these pieces offer an unprecedented view into the evolution of one of fashion's most storied houses.

What sets this collection apart is not merely its scope, but its condition and intent. Many pieces remain in a near-pristine state, preserved with the devotion typically reserved for fine art. Some have never been worn at all, acquired purely for their aesthetic significance. Ayoub approached her collecting with the discerning eye of an art connoisseur, seeking out the most iconic designs from each collection, each designer, each transformative moment in Dior's creative journey.

Reflecting on the creative forces that influenced her collecting, Ayoub reveals the personal connections that guided her choices. Marc Bohan's elegant, feminine designs gave her confidence as a young woman. Gianfranco Ferré's opulent, structured creations embodied glamour and beauty. But it was John Galliano who truly liberated her sense of style.

"He freed me from all the classic looks I had worn until then," Ayoub explains. "His clothes embodied the freedom I so deeply needed and longed for after my divorce. They were the outward expression I required after years of seclusion."

This personal transformation is reflected in the auction's centerpiece lots. Galliano's vision holds particular prominence, with iconic pieces from collections that rewrote fashion's narrative, including the "Maasai" and "Mata Hari" collections from Autumn-Winter 1997, the theatrical "Diorient Express" from 1998, and the provocative "Clochards" from Spring-Summer 2005.

Among the standout pieces, the 'Ygieia' gown from Galliano's "Mata Hari" collection carries an estimated value of 40,000 to 60,000 euros, reflecting both its artistic significance and historical importance. Ferré's beaded organza 'Vincennes' ballgown from the "Ascot-Cecil Beaton" collection is estimated at 5,000 to 7,000 euros, while more contemporary pieces, including a silver cloqué lamé evening gown by Maria Grazia Chiuri and a striking black and white organza sheath by Raf Simons, demonstrate the enduring power of Dior's creative vision.

Even earlier works, such as Marc Bohan's black crêpe evening ensemble with rhinestones from 1985-86, remind collectors of the foundation upon which Dior's modern era was built.

What emerges from this auction is more than a transaction of beautiful objects. It represents Ayoub's four-decade commitment to preserving fashion history, her understanding that haute couture represents a unique intersection of art, craftsmanship, and personal expression. Her collection stands as testimony to the transformative power of clothing and the visionary designers who push boundaries.

As these 126 pieces prepare for their next chapter, they carry with them not only the creative genius of Christian Dior's successive artistic directors but also the story of a collector whose boldness and discernment helped define what it means to truly celebrate fashion as art.
