- Oman’s First AI Assistant That Speaks to You — Literally
Oman’s First AI Assistant That Speaks to You — Literally by Rave Staff 31 Jul 2025 The world of AI just got a lot more personal in Oman. Yango Group, the global tech company behind Yango Play, has officially launched Yasmina , a bilingual, human-like voice assistant designed specifically for the region. Built into their new smart speakers (Midi, Mini, and Lite), Yasmina doesn’t just understand what you’re saying — she gets you . Fluent in both Arabic and English, Yasmina responds in a tone that feels less robotic and more like a well-informed friend. From streaming your favourite playlist to adjusting your smart home setup, her features go far beyond the basics. What sets her apart is her local edge, whether it’s setting prayer times in Muscat, playing Surahs, tracking the Hijri calendar, or helping you whip up traditional dishes like Omani Shuwa. She even helps plan your next family escape to Wadi Shab. Behind her natural tone is a powerful large language model part of YangoAI, the company’s cutting-edge tech suite tailored to the GCC. Think of Yasmina as your in-home guide to culture, connection, and convenience. She’s also got the kids covered with storytelling modes, bilingual translations, and simplified explanations of complex topics. Teachers, students, and content creators will find her just as useful in classrooms and workspaces as she is in the living room. “AI is no longer just about innovation. It’s about inclusion, making technology meaningful, accessible, and relevant,” said Islam Abdul Karim, Regional Head of Yango Group Middle East. “With Oman actively embracing digital transformation, Yasmina is here to complement that journey — one smart conversation at a time.” ITHCA Group, the technology investment arm of the Oman Investment Authority, also weighed in: “The Yasmina smart speakers will help families, students, and individuals discover AI in ways that feel familiar and practical. It aligns perfectly with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.” Already available across retail and online platforms in Oman, Yasmina is part of Yango Group’s bigger push across the Gulf to bring advanced, culturally aware AI into people’s daily lives. To unlock her full range of features, users will need a Yango Play subscription, the AI-powered entertainment super app available across the GCC.
- FIX Chocolate Is Turning Dubai’s Kindest Messages Into Art And Everyone’s Invited This Weekend
FIX Chocolate Is Turning Dubai’s Kindest Messages Into Art And Everyone’s Invited This Weekend by Layla Hassan 6 May 2026 In a city defined by movement, ambition, and constant reinvention, moments of genuine connection can feel increasingly rare. This weekend, FIX Dessert Chocolatier, the home-grown name behind the wildly talked-about “Dubai Chocolate”, is transforming Kite Beach into a giant community love letter to the UAE. Called Messages from the UAE , the two-day activation, created in partnership with Careem, invites residents to write heartfelt messages about kindness, unity, gratitude, and community, all of which will eventually become part of a real, limited-edition FIX Hero Box launching later this year. Yes, your words could literally become chocolate packaging. And honestly? It might just be one of the most wholesome things happening in Dubai right now. Taking place on 9 and 10 May from 4 PM until midnight, the experience centres around a giant interactive FIX Hero Box installation where visitors can submit messages digitally using tablets provided on-site. Throughout the weekend, those submissions will build into a live, evolving artwork displayed at the beach in real time. But this is not just about aesthetics. In a city often defined by scale, speed, and spectacle, the concept feels surprisingly human. A handwritten-style message, a small thought, a reminder that even in one of the world’s fastest-moving cities, connection still matters. FIX co-founder Sarah Hamouda says the idea came from the emotional impact of simple gestures. “Some of the most meaningful moments are often the smallest ones: a handwritten note or a simple ‘thinking of you’ message,” she shared. “We wanted to create a space where people could pause, share a few words, and feel part of something bigger.” Naturally, the experience extends beyond the installation itself, with over 5,000 curated goodie bags packed with products, treats, and vouchers from some of the UAE’s most-loved home-grown brands, including Parker’s, Salt, Karen Wazen, Somewhere, Humantra, Bake My Day, Public and more. The installation also taps into something larger happening across the UAE right now: the rise of home-grown brands becoming cultural identities of their own. What started as a dessert brand has now become part of Dubai’s lifestyle conversation, and this activation leans fully into that emotional connection people have with local concepts that feel authentic, community-driven, and proudly born in the UAE. The best part? There is no catch. No ticket. No exclusive guest list. Just people, messages, chocolate, beach air, and a reminder that sometimes the softest ideas leave the biggest impact.

- Movie Review: Weapons (2025)
Seventeen Children Vanish. What Happens Next Isn’t What You Expect. Movie Review: Weapons (2025) Seventeen Children Vanish. What Happens Next Isn’t What You Expect. by Khadija Husain 7 Aug 2025 A small Midwestern town. A warm summer night. At precisely 2:17 a.m., 17 third-graders vanish without a trace. This is the grim setup of Weapons , the newest psychological horror from Zach Cregger, best known for 2022’s Barbarian and his most ambitious, unnerving work to date. But if you’re expecting jump scares and gore, you’re in the wrong theatre. Weapons is something far more methodical, and far more haunting. The film is structured as a fragmented narrative reminiscent of Rashomon, eschewing a linear storyline in favor of spiraling and shifting perspectives. It begins with the chaos of the children's disappearance and gradually delves into the emotional, societal, and deeply personal aftermath. We meet a grieving father (Josh Brolin, weathered and excellent), a reeling teacher (Julia Garner, brittle and sharp-edged), a panicked cop (Alden Ehrenreich), and a drug dealer who seems to know more than he reveals (Austin Abrams). Each character revisits the night from a different viewpoint. The truth? Fractured. The aftermath? Catastrophic. Cregger doesn't offer simple solutions, which adds to the unsettling nature of Weapons. The mystery lies not only in what happened but also in why, and in what it reveals about the societal decay lurking beneath a perfectly manicured suburban lawn. His script sharply comments on performative grief, community paranoia, and the disturbing way society avoids confronting collective trauma. Visually, the film leans hard into contrast: warm, over-lit kitchens that feel sterile; quiet school corridors that throb with menace. Cinematographer Eli Born plays with light like a scalpel cutting through the everyday to expose something raw. It’s often in broad daylight that the most disturbing moments hit. One particular scene, in a sunlit garage, is more nerve-shredding than any haunted basement cliché. And then there's the sound design: minimal, unnerving, often silent. The absence of score in key scenes forces you to lean in, and that’s when it strikes. (L–R) Julia Garner as Justine and Josh Brolin as Archer in New Line Cinema’s Weapons, a Warner Bros. Pictures release. However, Weapons showcases a captivating atmosphere and bold narrative choices. The film presents a diverse array of characters, each bringing their unique perspectives, which enriches the overall experience. While some storylines may leave viewers wanting more, this diversity adds to the film's intriguing complexity. The ambitious nature of the project is commendable, as it pushes creative boundaries and invites viewers to engage with the material on a deeper level. The conclusion, with its abstract qualities, encourages thoughtful reflection and invites audiences to interpret the themes in their way. Ultimately, the film beautifully illustrates that the essence of horror often lies in the unknown, making the journey all the more compelling. Cary Christopher as Alex in New Line Cinema’s Weapons, a Warner Bros. Pictures release. Nonetheless, Weapons represents a precise, subtle shift in the horror genre. It doesn't scream—it murmurs, gradually unsettling you from within. This film stays with you, leaving you to ponder its elements days after viewing. This isn’t horror for the faint-hearted, nor for those looking for neat catharsis. But for those willing to sit with the unease, Weapons delivers something far more memorable: dread with intelligence, mystery without spoon-feeding, and a mirror to our darkest instincts. RATING: 4/5 A bold, fractured, and quietly brutal psychological horror that cements Zach Cregger as one of the most daring genre filmmakers working today. Image courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures

- Moscow’s Cult Café Arrives at Dubai Hills Mall
Moscow’s Cult Café Arrives at Dubai Hills Mall by Sienna Vale 25 Nov 2025 Coffeemania, a name long woven into Moscow’s dining culture, is opening its first international outpost, and Dubai is its chosen starting point. The restaurant will open on 28 November 2025 at Dubai Hills Mall, bringing its familiar blend of refined comfort food and coffee craft to the UAE. For more than two decades, Coffeemania has held a steady place in Russia’s dining scene. Known for approachable dishes prepared with a certain precision, it has built a reputation that sits somewhere between casual dining and something more considered. The Dubai opening marks a new chapter for the brand as it steps into a city that understands design, food, and the pleasure of spending time well. Coffeemania’s menu arrives with many of the dishes that shaped its identity. Expect the straightforward staples such as a clean Caesar, an Olivier done the traditional way, and the Pozharsky cutlet that regulars swear by. Beef Stroganoff and other comfort-heavy plates round out the selection. The pastry section, led by Head Pastry Chef Elena Zheleznyakova, brings a more delicate touch. Her layered Honey Cake (Smetannik) remains one of the brand’s most recognised desserts and will feature on the Dubai menu. Coffee still sits at the heart of the experience. As the birthplace of the original Raf, Coffeemania keeps its approach simple and exacting. Beans are roasted in-house, and the drinks are prepared by baristas trained through its long-established coffee programme, ensuring each cup stays consistent and traceable from start to finish. The 500 m² space has been designed by Studio APAA under lead designer Alexey Penyuk. The interior leans into warm woods, soft natural stone, and a restrained palette that complements the large Murano glass installation by Hannes Peer suspended overhead. Gio Ponti-inspired mosaic flooring and touches of Carrara marble and Breccia stone give the room a subtle texture without overwhelming the space. Custom seating, Italian leather details, and lighting by names such as Charlotte Perriand add a quiet sense of craft. The result is a room that feels polished but relaxed. A place intended for unhurried visits rather than quick stops. Coffeemania has also partnered with RARARES Gallery to introduce rotating works from both regional and international artists. Pieces by Tatiana Chursina, Ruslan Gudiev, and Emirati artist Fatma Lootah will be part of the opening curation, giving the restaurant an added cultural layer. Behind the kitchen is Brand Chef Alexey Petrichenko, whose experience spans Michelin-starred restaurants in France and Sweden. The coffee programme is overseen by Gleb Neveykin who is the creator of the original Raf Coffee, along with long-time specialists Irina Puzachkova and Varvara Stukalo. Their combined experience shapes what the brand hopes will be a familiar yet elevated version of the dining room it built back home. Coffeemania’s arrival in Dubai signals the start of its wider international expansion. For Dubai Hills Mall, it adds a new all-day dining option anchored in consistency, craftsmanship, and a calm approach to hospitality. Location: Ground Floor, Entrance 1, Dubai Hills Mall Opening: 28 November 2025
- Why Hard Work Alone Won’t Get You Seen
Why Hard Work Alone Won’t Get You Seen by Dr Katherine Iscoe 14 Oct 2025 We are told from a young age that hard work pays off. Put your head down, hustle harder than everyone else, and success will follow. But what happens when you do all the “right” things, stay late, deliver results, push through, and still feel invisible? It’s a frustration many of us know too well. We see opportunities handed to others. Recognition passes us by. And we’re left questioning: Am I even good enough? Maybe I’m just not meant for more. The Data That Matters When our progress feels slow, it’s easy to measure success by numbers. But numbers don’t tell the whole story. There’s another kind of data: the quiet thank-yous, the whispered “I don’t know where I’d be without you.” So the real question becomes: which data set matters more, the metrics on paper or the human impact you create? Often, the advice we hear is: “You just need to be more confident.” And don’t get me wrong, confidence matters. It’s the willingness to act even when you’re unsure. Confidence is sending the email, asking for the meeting, and introducing yourself to the person who intimidates you. But confidence alone isn’t enough. Because confidence without substance can crack under pressure. What truly shifts the needle is self-respect. Self-respect is the voice that says, “You have something worth fighting for.” It’s what reminds you that 1. just because others can do what you do doesn’t mean they can do it your way, 2. Your perspective is unique, and that’s exactly what people need to hear, and 3. You don’t have to prove yourself to everyone; you need to stay true to yourself. You can be the hardest worker in the room, but if you don’t back yourself, if you don’t believe you deserve to be seen, your effort alone won’t get you there. So, Why Does This Matter, I Hear You Say? In a world obsessed with performance metrics and productivity hacks, too many talented people are quietly burning out, believing their value lies only in how hard they push. But recognition isn’t just about grind. It’s about the courage to claim your space and respect your own voice. So if you’re feeling invisible right now, know this: someone is noticing. Someone is learning from you. Someone needs you to keep going. Hard work will get you far. Confidence will get you started. But it’s self-respect that will keep you standing tall when the spotlight finally turns your way. About Dr Katherine Iscoe Dr Katherine Iscoe is a motivational speaker, author, and advocate for self-respect. Drawing on her experiences overcoming depression, an eating disorder, and self-doubt, she empowers leaders to let go of imagined judgment, build confidence, and make a bigger impact. Her work focuses on practical, daily strategies to help people live authentically, protect their energy, and lead with integrity. Lead image by Kyrell
