IWC Schaffhausen, renowned for its blend of impeccable craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology, has once again redefined luxury with its latest release — the Ingenieur Automatic 40, now with a striking blue dial. Drawing inspiration from the original 1970s design by the legendary Gérald Genta, this new iteration masterfully marries the classic elements of the Ingenieur collection with modern advancements in wearability, finishing, and movement technology.

The Ingenieur collection has long been synonymous with precision and innovation. Initially launched in 1955 as IWC Schaffhausen’s first antimagnetic wristwatch, it wasn’t until the 1970s that the Ingenieur found its bold, distinctive aesthetic under the visionary guidance of Gérald Genta. Genta, who was tasked with redesigning the Ingenieur, created a masterpiece in the form of the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832 — a stainless steel luxury sports watch with an integrated bracelet, a design that would set the standard for the Ingenieur's future iterations.

IWC’s latest release, the Ingenieur Automatic 40, pays homage to Genta’s timeless design, featuring a characteristic bezel with five functional screws, an integrated bracelet, and the iconic grid-pattern dial. The watch encapsulates both the heritage of its origins and the innovations of contemporary watchmaking.

The newest addition to the Ingenieur Automatic 40 family, Reference IW328907, is all about refinement and sophistication. The striking blue dial, created with a meticulous stamping process, adds a modern twist to the classic design. The grid pattern, a signature feature of the Ingenieur, is stamped onto a soft iron base before being coated in a deep blue hue using PVD technology. This not only creates a beautiful visual effect but also ensures durability.

The dial’s aesthetic is further enhanced by rhodium-plated baton hands and applied metal markers, all filled with Super-LumiNova® for impeccable legibility, even in low-light conditions. The contrast between the vibrant blue dial and the sleek stainless steel case elevates the watch’s appeal, making it a true statement piece for any occasion.

Beyond its impressive exterior, the Ingenieur Automatic 40 is engineered for performance. Powered by the IWC-manufactured calibre 32111, this watch is built for reliability and precision. The automatic movement, equipped with a double pawl winding system, efficiently converts kinetic energy into a robust 120-hour power reserve, ensuring that the watch stays powered for five days without needing to be wound.

In line with the technical legacy of the Ingenieur, the watch also features a soft-iron inner case that shields the movement from magnetic fields, maintaining the accuracy of its timekeeping in challenging environments.

The ergonomic design of the 40mm stainless steel case and integrated H-link bracelet has been re-engineered for optimal comfort, ensuring a snug fit on wrists of all sizes. With its combination of polished and satin-finished surfaces, the bracelet not only feels luxurious but also reflects the light in a way that enhances the watch’s overall appeal.

The Ingenieur Automatic 40 is not just a tribute to the past but a celebration of modern watchmaking. With its rich history, impeccable craftsmanship, and sophisticated blue dial, it’s a testament to IWC Schaffhausen’s commitment to blending tradition with innovation. Whether you’re a collector or a new enthusiast, this watch is a timeless addition to any collection — one that captures the essence of luxury, precision, and enduring style.
