  • Rave Dines: A Taste of the Mediterranean at Riviera by Jean Imbert, The Lana, Business Bay

Rave Dines: A Taste of the Mediterranean at Riviera by Jean Imbert, The Lana, Business Bay by Khadija Husain 14 Apr 2025 There’s something magical about a well-curated dining experience—one that not only delights your taste buds but transports you to a different world. That’s exactly what Riviera by Jean Imbert promises, and it delivers in every course. located at The Lana – a Dorchester Collection hotel in Business Bay, this Mediterranean haven evokes the charm of the Côte d’Azur with its chic décor and a menu that speaks to the soul of true French gastronomy. The Experience From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by warm smiles and an atmosphere that felt inviting yet sophisticated. The soft lighting, accented by shades of blue reminiscent of the Mediterranean Sea, set the stage for what would be an unforgettable evening. From the moment we arrived at Riviera, the experience was like stepping into a Mediterranean dream. The restaurant’s elegant design—a beautiful blend of warm hues, natural textures, and soft lighting—creates a welcoming yet luxurious atmosphere. The open-plan dining area feels airy and intimate, with the space cleverly balancing sophistication and relaxation. But the true magic is revealed when you step out onto Riviera’s terrace. Overlooking the serene blue waters of the Marasi Bay Marina, the terrace offers stunning views of Dubai’s skyline & Burj Khalifa. As the sun sets, the reflection of the city’s skyline on the water makes for an enchanting sight. Dining al fresco here feels like a leisurely escape to the French Riviera, where time slows down and every moment is meant to be savored. The Culinary Journey Our evening began with a delightful selection of starters that felt as if they had been kissed by the French Riviera itself. The toasted focaccia with green beans and pistachio pesto was a perfect harmony of textures—crispy on the outside, with the delicate crunch of green beans and the richness of the pesto elevating each bite. A close second was the confit capsicums with burrata. Creamy and vibrant, the capsicums balanced the burrata beautifully, a dish that could easily make you feel like you’re dining on a sunny terrace in Provence. For the main course, we indulged in the lamb chops with stuffed vegetables and charcutière sauce. The lamb was perfectly cooked—tender and flavorful, complemented by the charcutière sauce’s sharp tang. Each bite was a reminder of why this dish is a staple in French cuisine. Then came the showstopper—the beef tenderloin with a pepper crust, spinach, and pomme Pont-Neuf. The pepper crust added a delightful kick to the melt-in-your-mouth tenderloin, while the spinach provided a fresh contrast to the richness of the meat. But let’s talk about those pommes Pont-Neuf—golden, crispy, and decadent. It was indulgence done right. Sweet Endings No meal at Riviera would be complete without a sweet finale, and their desserts did not disappoint. The pistachio and red fruit verrine was a playful dance of flavors—nutty pistachio met the tartness of the red fruit, creating a balanced and refreshing palate cleanser. But if you’re after indulgence, the iconic chocolate soufflé tartlet is an absolute must-try. Rich, decadent, and utterly satisfying, it’s the kind of dessert you dream about long after the meal is over. Post-Meal Indulgence To wind down, we sipped on a perfectly crafted cappuccino and the Lana hot chocolate. The hot chocolate, in particular, was a revelation—velvety, smooth, and rich without being too sweet Sitting back on the terrace with our post-dinner drinks, we couldn’t help but feel the magic of the moment—a perfect blend of flavors, ambiance, and good company. Final Thoughts Riviera by Jean Imbert isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience. Each dish is a reflection of Jean Imbert’s mastery of French cuisine, with a Mediterranean twist that feels refreshing yet familiar. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply want to indulge in a memorable meal, Riviera is a must-visit. I left with a full heart and a satisfied palate, already planning my return. And if you’re lucky enough to dine on the terrace, prepare to be whisked away by the stunning views—because at Riviera, the beauty of the Mediterranean is never far from reach. • Rave Dines: Bushman’s Restaurant, Anantara The Palm

Rave Dines: Bushman’s Restaurant, Anantara The Palm by Khadija Husain 5 Jan 2026 Looking for a new and exciting haunt for a precious date night or an evening out with your friends? Bushman’s is the restaurant to go to. Set along the Palm’s East Crescent at Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort, the restaurant combines its lush rustic interior perfectly with its al fresco ‘surf shack’ area overlooking the Arabian Gulf. The uninterrupted views stretching towards the Dubai skyline alone make the journey worthwhile. Upon entering the eatery, the décor immediately captivates with a well-thought-out interior. Dark leather chairs, wood panelling, and brick accents add depth and character. The walls are adorned with unique art pieces, while the bar features interesting currency displays. Cork-lined ceilings and creatively designed lamps contribute to a visually engaging yet tasteful setting. The menu at Bushman’s takes diners on a culinary journey across continents, offering an impressive selection of premium cuts that are sure to delight steak enthusiasts. Guests can choose from the prized Japanese Hokkaido Wagyu A5 Sirloin, richly marbled Australian Wagyu, heritage Argentinian breeds, and distinctive cuts from New Zealand, Canada, and the United States. Each cut, including tenderloin, ribeye, striploin, and tomahawk, is expertly grilled to individual preference, showcasing a hand-selected collection of the finest beef from around the world. What truly sets Bushman’s apart, though, is its in-house dry ager. where select cuts mature for 30 days in a climate-controlled cabinet. This natural process softens the fibres, concentrates flavour, and results in tender, flavour-packed steaks with rich umami notes and that irresistible nutty depth only dry ageing can create. A tableside preparation of steak tartare is an ideal start to the evening of indulgence, while a seasonal plate of heirloom tomatoes with compressed persimmon offers a a lighter alternative. For a more generous appetite, the 1.2 kg 300-day grain-fed USA Black Angus Onyx Tomahawk is presented whole, accompanied by a tasting of sauces and two classic sides. To conclude, the deconstructed Pavlova is prepared in front of guests, its meringue delicately balanced with cream and fresh fruit to provide a sinful ending to an elegant evening. This sharing platter concept was certainly the climax of a delightful evening as the chef crafted a visual and culinary masterpiece tableside. What more could one ask for? • RAVE REVIEWS: Bombay Borough, DIFC

RAVE REVIEWS: Bombay Borough, DIFC by Khadija Husain 7 Dec 2024 Stepping into Bombay Borough feels like being transported to a bygone era, where colonial charm meets the warmth and vibrancy of modern India. Located in the bustling DIFC, this restaurant immediately strikes you with its opulent yet inviting design. The moment we walked through the doors, we were drawn in by the blend of plush teal sofas, striking chandeliers, and whimsical cherry blossom trees—a setting that seemed both luxurious and intimate. The attention to detail was remarkable, as though every element, from the black-and-white tiled floors to the marble-topped tables, had been thoughtfully chosen to elevate the experience. It was impossible to take our eyes off the chandeliers, their soft glow casting a warm light over the room, and the cherry blossom tree standing gracefully, adding a touch of romance to the space. This wasn’t just a restaurant; it felt like a carefully crafted scene, designed to charm and delight. Seated at a cozy indoor table surrounded by charming knick-knacks, we couldn’t help but marvel at how the ambiance set the perfect tone for what was to come. Even the alfresco terrace beckoned, with its promise of enjoying Dubai’s cool evening air amidst such beautiful surroundings. But tonight, the indoors, with its rich Indo-chic accents, was the ideal spot to embark on our culinary journey. The menu, a fusion of street food classics and fine dining elegance, promised an adventure—and it delivered. Our evening began with Bazaar Bites, an ode to India’s vibrant food bazaars but with a creative twist. There was something magical about watching the chefs prepare these dishes in front of us, the live cooking reminiscent of the chaotic yet exciting street stalls of India. The first dish to arrive, Bareilly’s Namkeen Chaat, was a riot of flavors—crunchy roomali crisps, tangy tamarind chutney, and the subtle sweetness of raw mango yogurt. But it was the playful addition of 1000 Kurkure potatoes and nitro-raspberry chutney that truly elevated the dish. It was the kind of plate that made you pause, savor each bite, and smile at the sheer ingenuity of it all. Next came the Bengal Rasgulla Chaat, a dish that felt both nostalgic and new. The soft, spongy rasgulla paired with crunchy papdi and the bold flavors of mango yogurt and tamarind ghee-roasted nuts created a symphony of textures that played out on the palate. Each bite transported us further into the heart of India’s bustling Khau Gallis, but with a modern twist that spoke to Dubai’s cosmopolitan flair. Then came the Silguri Chicken Skewers, tender and dripping in flavorsome spices. The skewers were so good, we found ourselves savoring each bite slowly, hoping the moment would last. The Harissa Paneer Roast, on the other hand, brought a delightful heat, its Indian Sankeshwar chilies providing the perfect kick. The sesame-cheese stuffing inside the paneer was creamy and rich, each mouthful a reminder of the culinary brilliance at play. But it was the main course, the Chicken Tikka Butter Masala, that truly stole the show. A classic, yes, but one that felt reinvented in the most delightful way. The chicken, marinated in spices and roasted to perfection, was bathed in a rich, velvety Punjabi makhani sauce that was creamy without being heavy. Paired with soft, buttery naan, it was the kind of dish that wraps you in a warm hug, leaving you feeling utterly content. Every bite was a reminder of why this dish remains a beloved staple in Indian cuisine—comforting, indulgent, and deeply satisfying. By the time dessert arrived, we thought to had experienced the best Bombay Borough had to offer—but we were wrong. The Malai Jamun was nothing short of spectacular. Watching it being prepared at our table, nitrogen gas swirling in the air, added a touch of theatre to an already indulgent meal. The golden hue of the saffron-pistachio mousse, dusted with edible gold, was almost too beautiful to eat—almost. But one bite in, and we were transported. The richness of the jamun, paired with the lightness of the mousse, was the perfect finale to an evening of culinary delights. And then there was the service—attentive, warm, yet never intrusive. The staff seemed to anticipate our every need, but we were never rushed. It was as if they wanted us to linger, to truly savor the experience, and savor we did. The meal unfolded like a story, each course a new chapter that left us eagerly awaiting the next. There was a rhythm to the evening that felt effortless, each element falling perfectly into place. Verdict Dining at Bombay Borough is not just about the food; it’s about being swept up in an experience that marries the rich flavors of India’s streets with the elegance of fine dining. Every dish, every bite, tells a story—of tradition, of innovation, and of a deep love for Indian cuisine. From the breathtaking ambiance to the playful yet sophisticated dishes, Bombay Borough is a place that lingers in your mind long after the last bite. It's the kind of place that makes you want to return, not just for the food, but for the entire experience. It’s more than a meal; it’s a celebration of flavor, culture, and creativity, and one that we will certainly return to again. CORO CORA, That Concept Store Khatim Placemat These Colombian-made placemats are the kind of thing you buy once and use for years. Handwoven by artisans in Usiacurí using natural fibres over a wireframe, they've got texture and weight to them—none of that flimsy fabric that slides around the table. The circular Khatim pattern has an understated geometric appeal that pairs well with both minimalist white dishes and your grandmother's good china. They're designed to take a beating (read: daily iftar use) while still looking refined enough for when the extended family comes over. Available at That Concept Stores and online Zarina, Maison 7 Sahara Rose Chaffe Six-Piece Arabic Coffee Cup Set Let's be honest—your Ramadan table needs Arabic coffee cups. This six-piece set from Zarina does the job beautifully with its Sahara Rose Chaffe design in soft pinks and gold trim. Available at the Good Earth stores Anthropologie Embroidered Napkin Set Good napkins shouldn't be an afterthought, and Anthropologie's embroidered collection gets this right. They're cotton, well-made, with subtle threadwork that adds polish without being fussy. The neutral tones mean they work with whatever else you've got going on table-wise.
