Looking ahead, Akari plans to host intimate talks, workshops, and community gatherings exploring longevity, integrative health, and mindful living—extending its mission beyond treatments to conversations that matter. “Akari was born from our shared vision to create a place where science, sustainability, and serenity come together,” says Katia. “We wanted to offer a new standard of wellness for Dubai, one that is effective, evidence-based, and deeply restorative.” For those ready to explore wellness beyond the ordinary, Akari in One Central is now open, welcoming guests into a space that balances precision, serenity, and conscious living.

  • The Shoe That Goes Unseen But Works Every Day

The Shoe That Goes Unseen But Works Every Day by khadija Husain 8 December 2025 There’s a new kind of shoe you keep spotting at airports, on quiet café dates, during long city walks, and even at low-key creative meetings. No logos shouting for attention. No exaggerated shapes. Just clean, soft silhouettes that look like they belong everywhere. Chances are, they’re Allbirds. What makes their rise interesting isn’t loud campaigns or celebrity hype. It’s how quietly they’ve slotted into everyday wardrobes. People don’t wear Allbirds to be noticed. They wear them because they’re comfortable, reliable, and somehow work with almost everything. And lately, that kind of fashion choice feels more relevant than ever. Shopping habits have changed. We’re asking different questions now: Will this last? Can I walk all day in it? Will it still feel good by evening? Allbirds landed right in the middle of that shift. Their shoes are known for being soft straight out of the box, there are no painful break-ins, no stiff edges. You slip them on and go about your day without thinking about your feet again. They’re popular with people who are always on the move, like travellers, entrepreneurs, creatives, parents, and anyone balancing long days with unpredictable schedules. These are shoes built for real routines, not just mirror selfies. Allbirds doesn’t follow trend cycles the way most fashion brands do. Their designs stay intentionally minimal, almost anonymous. And somehow, that’s exactly why they work. They pair just as easily with linen trousers as they do with denim, athleisure, or relaxed tailoring. They don’t compete with an outfit, rather, they support it. Allbirds leans fully into comfort as the main event. Their use of soft wool, airy tree fibres, and cushioned soles creates a lightweight feel that works across seasons. The shoes adapt to your day walking, standing, commuting, and travelling without demanding adjustment from your body. Part of what draws people to Allbirds now is the absence of noise. No aggressive branding. No trend-chasing drops. No pressure to upgrade every season. It mirrors a wider lifestyle shift toward intentional choices and fewer things, better quality, and less visual chaos. Wearing something because it feels right, not because it’s everywhere online. Allbirds may sit in the footwear category, but they’re really lifestyle-led. They’re worn for school runs, travel days, casual work settings, errands, walks, weekend plans, and long days that turn into late nights. They don’t demand occasion dressing. They adapt. And in modern wardrobes, that kind of flexibility is becoming non-negotiable. That’s what makes spotting Allbirds interesting. It’s not a “look at me” shoe. It’s a “this works for me” shoe. And that mindset feels more powerful than any logo. Allbirds is quietly redefining what people expect from their everyday shoes—comfort without compromise, simplicity without boredom, and style without effort. And maybe that’s exactly why everyone’s wearing them without making a big deal about it. Because sometimes, the most interesting trends are the ones that don’t feel like trends at all.

  • Introducing a new timeless masterpiece: the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition

Timeless Power Meets Precision: The Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition Introducing a new timeless masterpiece: the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition Timeless Power Meets Precision: The Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition Rave Staff 19 February 2025 In the serene yet vibrant Swiss city of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux proudly unveil their latest masterpiece: the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition. This timepiece, the sixth in a series of highly coveted collaborations between these iconic brands, continues to reflect the shared values of craftsmanship, innovation, and luxury that have defined their partnership since 2021. At the heart of every Aston Martin lies a commitment to orchestrating human emotion, offering an intense, singular experience that elevates the art of driving to new heights. The new Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition seeks to mirror this ethos, with every element meticulously designed to evoke emotion and demand attention. Like an Aston Martin on the road, this watch is destined to be noticed and admired. Aston Martin’s association with the legendary British Racing Green dates back to 1922 when the marque’s drivers raced under the emblem of this distinctive hue. Over the years, the brand has expanded its signature green into nine bespoke shades available through its core colour palette, and through the bespoke service, Q by Aston Martin, the options for customization are virtually limitless. This iconic shade now takes center stage in the design of the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition, where Girard-Perregaux has reimagined an iridescent green dial inspired by the British marque’s rich heritage. The process of creating this dial is an intricate one, requiring 14 precise manufacturing steps to achieve its unique shimmer and depth. Beyond its striking aesthetic, the new Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition integrates materials familiar to Aston Martin’s hypercar engineering. Grade five titanium, which was used in the production of Aston Martin’s Valkyrie hypercar, has been chosen for the case and bracelet, ensuring the watch is lightweight yet exceptionally durable. This material, combined with Girard-Perregaux’s hallmark brushed and polished surfaces, delivers a captivating contrast, adding to the allure and performance of the timepiece. Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, remarked on the collaboration’s shared vision: “The core ideology behind the latest timepiece in our collection with Aston Martin was to create something that would be a fusion of our different areas of expertise. This is how the idea of creating a dial with automotive-grade paint, in a green shade that is dear to Aston Martin, came to life. The process was long and complex, but we are proud of the result. This timepiece, with its unique iridescent colour, demonstrates the expertise of our respective industries in mastering excellence. It’s a beautiful continuation of our partnership with Aston Martin.” Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin, echoed this sentiment: “Whether we are designing a high-performance, ultra-luxury supercar or a timepiece with our partner Girard-Perregaux, creating a piece of mastery is at the core of our work and our creations. An Aston Martin is more than a car, it’s an expression of one’s personality, a passion – something that is often shared with the ownership of a watch.” Both Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux have become synonymous with the pinnacle of luxury. Their shared commitment to excellence and boundary-pushing craftsmanship has resulted in a timepiece that excites at every level. The Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition is now available at selected Girard-Perregaux retailers worldwide, offering collectors a chance to own a truly unique piece of horological and automotive heritage.

  • What Does the UAE Smell Like? One Perfumer Has a Beautiful Answer

What Does the UAE Smell Like? One Perfumer Has a Beautiful Answer by Khadija Husain 14 Jan 2026 Close your eyes. Breathe in. What scent rises from the dunes, the souks, the soaring glass towers, and sun-warmed courtyards of home? For most, it’s an abstract question. For one perfumer, it is deeply personal — a true scent of home, intimate and welcoming. This is the story of Sultan Abdulla, chairman of Dubai-based Lootah Perfumes. For him, that question is not poetic musing; it is the foundation of his life’s work. His legacy unfolds in wisps of smoky bukhoor and the deep resonance of aged oud. It begins not with a single note, but with a memory. It smells of warmth, of golden-hour light filtering through a majlis — specifically, the scent of freshly lit bukhoor in his grandmother’s home. “The house came alive with warmth as she placed the first chip on the coal,” he recalls. “It was the signal that guests were welcome.” In that aromatic cloud of oud and resins, a young boy learned that fragrance was more than scent; it was emotion, hospitality, and identity. Sultan’s guiding philosophy, inherited directly from those rituals, is simple: “Fragrance is not a product, it is a gesture.” Watching his grandmother prepare bukhoor with the intention of choosing ingredients that carried stories, memories, and blessings — taught him that scent is a form of generosity, a way to honour both space and visitor. That belief became the beating heart of a modern perfume house. “I remember evenings when the family gathered to shape bukhoor by hand,” Sultan shares. “There was a rhythm to it. Each step carried responsibility. Those moments taught me that our craft is a legacy, not a business.” It is this respect for raw materials, for the hands that work them, for the stories they hold that elevates Lootah beyond ornamentation into the realm of cultural preservation. Today, Sultan translates this sensory heritage into a contemporary olfactory language, asking the world to reconsider what Gulf fragrance can be. If you think you know Middle Eastern perfumery, dense, potent expressions of rose and oud — Lootah Perfumes invites you to look closer, and feel deeper. How does one carry the warmth of a grandmother’s ritual into a fragrance meant for the world? The answer lies in balance. “Tradition is our anchor, innovation is our movement, and authenticity is the bridge between the two,” Sultan explains. Here, the iconic notes of the region — the soulful depth of oud, the warmth of amber, and the soft embrace of rose are not treated as relics. They are reorchestrated, becoming the vocabulary of a new, confident dialogue. Every creation begins with feeling. “It often starts with a story, a memory we want to translate into scent,” he says. The emotion comes first; the ingredients follow. This method births scents that are both deeply familiar and thrillingly new. This philosophy comes alive across Lootah’s collections. In the Bukhoor line, Palomino Bukhoor pays homage to the ceremonial warmth of his grandmother’s craft, now refined for contemporary living. In contrast, Lava Oud, which Sultan describes as the embodiment of the “Dubai scent”, captures the city’s bold, modern, and unapologetic confidence. It presents oud not as tradition preserved in amber, but as energy in motion. Oud, which Sultan calls “the note that brings me home,” is reimagined not as a symbol of the past, but as a living, breathing force. Lootah Perfumes also reflects a broader shift in how we relate to scent today. “People are looking for meaning,” Sultan observes. “They want fragrance that aligns with who they are. It’s become a form of self-expression, almost a signature.” That sense of connection is the experience he hopes to offer. “I want people to feel linked to a memory, a moment, or a version of themselves,” he says. To leave not with something they purchased, but something they recognised. The goal is not to sell fantasy, but to reveal truth. Looking ahead, Sultan Abdulla’s vision is precise and deeply personal. He hopes Lootah Perfumes will be remembered as “the house that carried Emirati perfumery into the future without losing its soul.” If his grandmother’s bukhoor once signalled that guests were welcome, then his fragrances are an invitation to the world, to experience the UAE not as a postcard, as a deeply felt, emotionally layered landscape. His ambition is quietly personal: “when someone leaves, they carry a scent they truly relate to, one that reflects who they are and how they want to feel.” It is the creation of belonging. As he distils it into a single sentence: “Emirati perfumery is the art of welcoming — a fragrant expression of heritage, generosity, and timeless elegance.” So, what does the UAE smell like? Through the lens of Sultan Abdulla, it smells of timeless welcome and bold tomorrows. It is the scent of heritage exhaled with a modern breath. The house stands as a beautiful contradiction: deeply rooted yet forward-looking, intimate yet expansive. At Lootah Perfumes , you are always welcome.

  • Your 50s Could Be Your Strongest Years. But Only If You Start Now

But that version of yourself is built in the decade before. Here, we examine what longevity actually demands — and why the conversation has finally arrived in the UAE Your 50s Could Be Your Strongest Years. But Only If You Start Now But that version of yourself is built in the decade before. Here, we examine what longevity actually demands — and why the conversation has finally arrived in the UAE by Khadija Husain 4 Mar 2026 It is past eleven, yet the restaurant remains bustling. At the adjacent table, someone is celebrating a closed deal, a milestone achieved, or simply a reason that needs none. The espresso arrives well after dessert, and time is of no concern. This isn't indulgence, it's a way of life. The Gulf has developed civilizations at a pace rarely seen in history, and the rhythm of daily life mirrors that ambition. However, the body doesn't share the same traits as a skyline; it can't expand on vision alone. Beneath the region's vibrant energy, a different dialogue has emerged, focusing not on the length of life, but on its quality. This shift is what individuals like Dave Catudal, founder of the Dubai-based longevity brand Forus Supplements , have been addressing for years—transitioning the conversation from mere performance to sustainable recovery. Longevity science has significantly expanded beyond the biohacking circles of Silicon Valley. Clinics now assess biological age, inflammation markers, sleep patterns, and nervous system recovery. Wearable devices now track data that once required a research lab. For many high-achieving professionals, the data poses a subtle challenge. The causes are seldom dramatic; they build up gradually. Disrupted sleep, persistent low-level stress, highly processed convenience foods, and continuous stimulation all play a role. A nervous system that has not fully relaxed in years accumulates stress. The effects do not appear immediately but build up gradually. A more encouraging and important discovery is that increasing research suggests some elements of physiological ageing can be altered. The body is active and reacts to signals like sleep quality, stress management, metabolic health, and inflammation levels. The key question is whether we are paying attention to the correct signals to create a meaningful impact. Sleep Is Architecture, Not Hours What happens inside those hours is what matters Seven hours have become a cultural symbol for doing the right thing. However, sleep researchers are increasingly emphasising that duration is an insufficient measure. The crucial aspect is what occurs during those hours. Deep slow-wave sleep is responsible for physical repair, while REM sleep is essential for memory consolidation, emotional regulation, and cognitive processing. Many high-performing adults get enough sleep hours but lack sufficient restorative cycles, noticing the impact without being able to identify it. In this region, the disruptors are specific: late dinners eaten in the heat of social life, caffeine-rich evenings, ambient temperatures that never quite chill, schedules that begin where other cities wind down. Global wearable data consistently shows that late-night stimulation reduces both deep and REM sleep proportions — regardless of how long you're in bed. "Together, these trends point to a population caught in a cycle of chronic low-grade inflammation and nervous system dysregulation, the silent drivers of fatigue, metabolic issues, and accelerated ageing,” says Catudal. Catudal has spent years analysing this insight. His perspective: optimisation starts with behaviour, not supplements."If someone relies solely on melatonin but still drinks espresso at nine pm, we haven't tackled the root problem," he says. Sleep experts tend to concur. Light exposure, meal timing, temperature, and consistent sleep schedules are essential before considering any supplements. Stress Is Biological, Not Just Emotional High performance and high recovery capacity are not the same thing We have become fluent in the language of stress management. Meditation, breathwork, and digital detoxes, and yet the body often tells a different story. Modern stress is rarely acute. It is ambient — a continuous low hum of input: indoor air quality, processed food, high-pressure decisions, the particular exhaustion of always being reachable. Clinicians describe this as cumulative physiological load. The nervous system toggles between its sympathetic state (alert, reactive, defended) and its parasympathetic one (rested, restored, regulated). Many high-performing adults spend disproportionate time in the former. "When people mention managing stress, they often refer to mental management," Catudal notes. "However, the nervous system might still remain in a defensive state." Studies on heart rate variability — a dependable indicator of nervous system balance — back this up. High performance and high recovery capacity are distinct, and we frequently confuse the two. The primary interventions are straightforward: strength training, regular exposure to natural light, minimizing evening stimulation, and maintaining consistent meal times. Not specific protocols. Patterns. Recovery Is a Process, Not a Weekend The deficit compounds quietly over the years We have idealised recovery with notions like spa weekends, rest days, and occasional digital breaks. However, biologically, recovery is a more ongoing and demanding process. Tissue repair, maintaining gut integrity, regulating inflammation, and recalibrating the nervous system are continuous activities. When sleep is inadequate and stress levels are high, these processes function below their best capacity, and the resulting deficit quietly accumulates over the years. This is where Catudal positions supplementation not as a shortcut, but as structural support for systems that are already working. Through Forus, he developed a dual-formula approach: one designed to support daytime repair pathways, another to assist nighttime nervous system recovery without relying solely on melatonin. One formula centres on BPC-157, a peptide currently being studied for its potential role in tissue and gut repair. It is worth noting that human clinical research on BPC-157 remains limited and evolving, and regulatory status varies by country. These are not finished answers — they are active areas of investigation. "There is no magic pill," Catudal says plainly. "Training, nutrition, sleep discipline — those are non-negotiable. Supplements should reinforce good behaviour, not replace it." Most medical professionals echo this hierarchy. Ageing Is Not Linear Chronological age is fixed. Biological age is something we participate in. Biological age testing, which may analyse blood markers, DNA methylation patterns, or metabolic indicators, is gaining ground in preventative medicine. The tools vary in accuracy and should be interpreted within clinical guidance rather than consumed as standalone verdicts. But the central insight is consistent: cardiovascular health, metabolic resilience, sleep quality, and inflammation markers are responsive to sustained behavioural change. For Catudal , this is personal. He was seventeen when his father died at forty-six. He made himself a promise then: that when he reached that age, his best years would still be ahead of him. At twenty-three, he was diagnosed with cancer. He survived — and redirected his understanding of what recovery actually requires, at a systems level."I have more energy in my forties than I did in my twenties," he says. "That doesn't happen by accident. It's what long-term foundations look like." “We’re witnessing a true awakening,” says Catudal. “People are starting to take more ownership of their health - connecting the dots between gut health, inflammation, and recovery, and how it impacts their wellbeing and longevity. Peptides are emerging as the new forefront of longevity, and at Forus, we’re pioneering this movement with an uncompromising focus on efficacy, safety, and real-world results.” The Non-Negotiables: “There are more options than ever for longevity supplements and treatments today,” says Catudal. “However, regardless of scientific advancements, the basics of healthy living remain unchanged - quality sleep, reduced inflammation, nervous system regulation, and a healthy gut.” Audit your sleep cycles, not just your hours Wearable data can reveal time spent in deep and REM cycles. Seven hours without restorative phases is not the same as seven hours of true repair. They are the quiet patterns that shape outcomes long before decline announces itself. Understand your n ervous system baseline If you wake fatigued despite adequate sleep, your system may be spending too much time in sympathetic (fight-or-flight) mode. Recovery requires parasympathetic dominance — the state in which repair occurs. Anchor your circadian rhythm early Natural light within the first hour of waking is one of the most powerful signals for hormonal regulation. A screen cannot substitute for sunlight. Be strategic with sleep aids Melatonin and herbal sedatives can support sleep onset, but they do not necessarily improve the depth or structure of restorative cycles. Rethink liquid sugar Even freshly pressed juices deliver a concentrated glucose load that the body absorbs quickly. Think preventatively The most powerful shift is not reacting to decline — but building metabolic and neurological resilience before it becomes urgent. Longevity is not about living forever. It is about arriving at fifty, sixty, or even seventy with cognitive clarity, metabolic strength, and physical independence intact. It is about still being someone who shows up fully — not just on paper, not just in performance metrics, but in the room long after eleven, when the espresso arrives, and no one checks the time.
