The challenge is not restriction, but how we guide children to grow up with technology rather than against it. Don’t make these 5 mistakes when explaining the social media ban to children The challenge is not restriction, but how we guide children to grow up with technology rather than against it. by Purva Grover 18 Jun 2026 Foremost, start by placing yourself in the shoes of children. They are angsty, convinced they already know better than adults, and have grown up with constant access to the internet. During the pandemic and other uncertain times lately, it became not just a source of entertainment but a lifeline for studies, connection, and reassurance about the safety of loved ones far away. Now, they are being told they can no longer doomscroll Reels or make endless TikToks with friends, and words like “prohibited,” “restrictions,” and “control” are being used to describe a decision that is, in essence, designed for their well-being. It is meant to protect them—much like a seat belt in a car, better-grip shoes on a court, or ballet shoes in class. Even broccoli becomes acceptable when it’s covered in cheese. It is, at its core, about wellness. Don’t make these mistakes when explaining the social media ban to children. Seeing the world through their screen The framing matters. Anything that sounds like a restriction instantly triggers a sense of lost freedom. Instead of framing it as something taken away, it helps to explain that platforms are being given time to implement age-appropriate safeguards and that access—where appropriate—comes with maturity and accountability, much like earning a license as a young adult. When something is simply “forbidden,” children often find ways around it; and perhaps, in moderation, their imagination in doing so is not always a bad thing in an age of digital dependency. Children mirror what they see Old rules still win. Children imitate more than we realize. If adults reduce their own screen time (and we all can and should!) and model moderation, children are far more likely to follow. Behavior speaks louder than instruction. Social media is not a bad thing: It is also important to talk about what it actually offers them. It can answer questions in seconds—from “how to concentrate better” to “how to improve vocabulary” or even “how to make pizza.” The algorithm is designed to serve them endlessly, but learning how to exist without constant digital assistance is equally essential. Understanding why they log on Understanding their usage is key. Is it for staying connected with friends, learning beauty tips, or simply a habit of scrolling while eating? Once the need is understood, alternatives can be offered—more playdates, books on makeup, board games, or turning dinner into conversation time again. I remember transitioning from phone to reading by replacing a paperback with a Kindle; nothing felt abruptly taken away, yet the habit slowly shifted. Supervised use, rather than total deprivation, can ease the transition. We are not from different worlds, just different eras And finally, avoid the trap of comparing childhoods. “We didn’t even have…” doesn’t help. Today’s children are not from the same technological world—they are digital natives, just as we were children of Walkmans and Polaroids. They decorate Zoom backgrounds instead of bedroom walls. Instead of rewinding time, we need to grow with them. Ask them how new features work. Let them teach us sometimes. Located in the… by Khadija Husain 7 Dec 2024 Stepping into Bombay Borough feels like being transported to a bygone era, where colonial charm meets the warmth and vibrancy of modern India. Located in the bustling DIFC, this restaurant immediately strikes you with its opulent yet inviting design. The moment we walked through the doors, we were drawn in by the blend of plush teal sofas, striking chandeliers, and whimsical cherry blossom trees—a setting that seemed both luxurious and intimate. The attention to detail was remarkable, as though every element, from the black-and-white tiled floors to the marble-topped tables, had been thoughtfully chosen to elevate the experience. It was impossible to take our eyes off the chandeliers, their soft glow casting a warm light over the room, and the cherry blossom tree standing gracefully, adding a touch of romance to the space. This wasn’t just a restaurant; it felt like a carefully crafted scene, designed to charm and delight. Seated at a cozy indoor table surrounded by charming knick-knacks, we couldn’t help but marvel at how the ambiance set the perfect tone for what was to come. Even the alfresco terrace beckoned, with its promise of enjoying Dubai’s cool evening air amidst such beautiful surroundings. But tonight, the indoors, with its rich Indo-chic accents, was the ideal spot to embark on our culinary journey. The menu, a fusion of street food classics and fine dining elegance, promised an adventure—and it delivered. Our evening began with Bazaar Bites, an ode to India’s vibrant food bazaars but with a creative twist. There was something magical about watching the chefs prepare these dishes in front of us, the live cooking reminiscent of the chaotic yet exciting street stalls of India. The first dish to arrive, Bareilly’s Namkeen Chaat, was a riot of flavors—crunchy roomali crisps, tangy tamarind chutney, and the subtle sweetness of raw mango yogurt. But it was the playful addition of 1000 Kurkure potatoes and nitro-raspberry chutney that truly elevated the dish. It was the kind of plate that made you pause, savor each bite, and smile at the sheer ingenuity of it all. Next came the Bengal Rasgulla Chaat, a dish that felt both nostalgic and new. The soft, spongy rasgulla paired with crunchy papdi and the bold flavors of mango yogurt and tamarind ghee-roasted nuts created a symphony of textures that played out on the palate. Each bite transported us further into the heart of India’s bustling Khau Gallis, but with a modern twist that spoke to Dubai’s cosmopolitan flair. Then came the Silguri Chicken Skewers, tender and dripping in flavorsome spices. The skewers were so good, we found ourselves savoring each bite slowly, hoping the moment would last. The Harissa Paneer Roast, on the other hand, brought a delightful heat, its Indian Sankeshwar chilies providing the perfect kick. The sesame-cheese stuffing inside the paneer was creamy and rich, each mouthful a reminder of the culinary brilliance at play. But it was the main course, the Chicken Tikka Butter Masala, that truly stole the show. A classic, yes, but one that felt reinvented in the most delightful way. The chicken, marinated in spices and roasted to perfection, was bathed in a rich, velvety Punjabi makhani sauce that was creamy without being heavy. Paired with soft, buttery naan, it was the kind of dish that wraps you in a warm hug, leaving you feeling utterly content. Every bite was a reminder of why this dish remains a beloved staple in Indian cuisine—comforting, indulgent, and deeply satisfying. By the time dessert arrived, we thought to had experienced the best Bombay Borough had to offer—but we were wrong. The Malai Jamun was nothing short of spectacular. Watching it being prepared at our table, nitrogen gas swirling in the air, added a touch of theatre to an already indulgent meal. The golden hue of the saffron-pistachio mousse, dusted with edible gold, was almost too beautiful to eat—almost. But one bite in, and we were transported. The richness of the jamun, paired with the lightness of the mousse, was the perfect finale to an evening of culinary delights. And then there was the service—attentive, warm, yet never intrusive. The staff seemed to anticipate our every need, but we were never rushed. It was as if they wanted us to linger, to truly savor the experience, and savor we did. The meal unfolded like a story, each course a new chapter that left us eagerly awaiting the next. There was a rhythm to the evening that felt effortless, each element falling perfectly into place. Verdict Dining at Bombay Borough is not just about the food; it’s about being swept up in an experience that marries the rich flavors of India’s streets with the elegance of fine dining. Every dish, every bite, tells a story—of tradition, of innovation, and of a deep love for Indian cuisine. From the breathtaking ambiance to the playful yet sophisticated dishes, Bombay Borough is a place that lingers in your mind long after the last bite. It's the kind of place that makes you want to return, not just for the food, but for the entire experience. Brought to the UAE by Luxury Living Group and exclusive retailer The Mattress Store, Bugatti Home presents an exquisitely curated collection of its most coveted furniture pieces, each one inspired by the same values of craftsmanship and precision that define its hyper sports cars. This new venture is an extension of Bugatti's heritage, refined over a century of excellence, and introduces a design ethos that merges timeless elegance with cutting-edge innovation. The boutique itself is a bright, contemporary space that exudes a trendsetting aesthetic. Upon entering, guests are greeted with sleek, simple lines and a harmonious blend of textures, a reflection of Bugatti’s meticulous attention to detail and its dedication to perfection. The launch of this boutique follows the debut of Bugatti Home’s third collection earlier this year at Salone del Mobile in Milan, further cementing Bugatti’s evolution both in its design philosophy and its global retail strategy. Wiebke Ståhl, Managing Director at Bugatti International, shared the significance of this moment, saying: “Dubai is a key market in terms of design, with a booming real estate industry, daring architecture, and a deep understanding of luxury lifestyle. Opening our first Bugatti Home store in the city is an exciting moment for us, and comes not long after the unveiling of our Bugatti Residences project also in Dubai. With this expansion, we enter a new phase of our journey within the world of fine living: showcasing our exclusive Italian, hand-crafted furniture globally.” The opening of the boutique is a tribute to Bugatti’s legacy, bringing together three exclusive collections of furniture for the first time since the launch of the inaugural Bugatti Home collection in 2016. Every piece on display is a reinterpretation of Bugatti’s core values, channeling the spirit of the hyper sports cars into finely crafted furniture that speaks of pure design and exceptional craftsmanship. The boutique’s striking display offers a glimpse into the Bugatti way of living, where luxury meets functionality in the most artistic of ways. The latest 2024 collection, now available at the boutique, embodies timeless sophistication, blending natural materials with technology-driven elements. The use of materials like European oak, glass, metal, and metallic lacquer creates a contrast that is both striking and elegant. Textiles such as cashmere, wool, silk, and leather add a layer of indulgence, making each piece a tactile experience. Signature items from this collection include the TYPE_3 armchair , a contemporary nod to the inviting charm of the 1970s. It seamlessly blends nostalgic design with modern comfort, while the accompanying TYPE_3 ottoman adds an air of sophistication to any space. Hand-tufted rugs round out the collection, celebrating Bugatti’s iconic design language and its commitment to artistry. In addition to the new collection, Bugatti Home's boutique also showcases standout pieces from previous collections. Among them is the limited edition Cobra Chair , produced in blue and white to celebrate Bugatti’s 110th anniversary. With only 110 pieces ever made, it stands as a hallmark of exclusivity. The Noire armchair , a tribute to the legendary La Voiture Noire, along with the Chiron chaise longue , distinguished by its aerodynamic design, and the Le Mans sofa , known for the sleek band running along its base, are also featured. One of the most impressive pieces in the collection is the Ettore Grand Bureau desk . This re-design of a classic desk showcases the innovative use of carbon fiber, ensuring both strength and elegance in one bold statement. The opening of Bugatti Home’s first boutique in Dubai is not just a new chapter for the brand, but a defining moment in its broader mission to extend the Bugatti lifestyle beyond the world of automobiles. As Bugatti continues to grow, this space reaffirms the brand's commitment to offering authentic, unrivaled experiences that combine heritage, innovation, and a passion for craftsmanship. With this remarkable new venture, Bugatti Home invites luxury connoisseurs and design aficionados alike to immerse themselves in the essence of Bugatti living, where timeless refinement and cutting-edge design collide in perfect harmony. • Can AI Tell You How Fit You Really Are? I Tried The Technogym Checkup

We tried the Technogym Checkup, an AI-powered fitness assessment that measures your body's real data — here's what it revealed about true fitness. Can AI Tell You How Fit You Really Are? I Tried The Technogym Checkup We tried the Technogym Checkup, an AI-powered fitness assessment that measures your body's real data — here's what it revealed about true fitness. by Khadija Husain 29 Jun 2026 Most gym sessions start with an assumption, not data. We guess what our bodies need and hope consistency will figure out the rest. A heavier weight. A longer run. Another reformer class. Another promise to stretch properly this time. Fitness, for all its tracking apps and glossy equipment, is still often built on instinct. Technogym Checkup interrupts that pattern. I arrived expecting something between a body scan and a gym induction. What I found was quieter, more revealing, and slightly more confronting. This is not a machine that asks you to perform for its own sake. It asks you to pause, move carefully, react quickly, and let the numbers gather around you. That shift matters. In most gyms, the workout comes first, and the questions come later, if they come at all. Technogym Checkup reverses the order. It begins with assessment. The AI-based station measures physical and functional markers, then uses the results to help shape a targeted training plan. In plain terms, it checks where your body actually is before suggesting where it should go next. The experience starts through the Technogym App, which connects your profile to the machine. From there, the Checkup moves through body composition, strength, balance, mobility, cardio, and cognitive tests without making the process feel like a medical exam. It is structured, but not clinical, which makes a difference when you are being assessed, not just working out. There is a particular vulnerability in being measured. You are no longer hiding behind intention. You are looking at evidence. The first surprise is how quickly the usual fitness shorthand begins to feel inadequate. Weight, the number so many people obsess over, suddenly looks like the least interesting thing in the room. Two people can weigh the same and have completely different muscle mass, posture, endurance, mobility, and coordination. The Checkup is more interested in performance than appearance, and that alone makes the experience feel more intelligent. Body composition still appears, with indicators such as fat percentage, muscle mass, metabolic rate, hydration, and overall composition, but it is no longer treated as the main event. It becomes context. The more interesting moments happen when the machine asks the body to prove itself in less familiar ways. Balance was one of them. Stability sounds simple until you are asked to demonstrate it. I found myself overthinking the smallest shifts, suddenly aware of how much effort it takes to appear still. Posture, coordination, and body awareness stop being abstract ideas and become something visible. Mobility stayed with me even more. It is easy to think of fitness as effort: lifting more, running faster, burning harder. Mobility is less glamorous, but it is often where the truth lives. The Checkup looks at flexibility and range of motion across the shoulders, hips, ankles, and spine. For anyone who spends long hours sitting, travelling, or working at a desk, this is where the body starts telling on you. The cardio test on the treadmill feels more familiar, but it lands differently after the earlier checks. You are already paying attention in a more exacting way. The cognitive testing sharpens that further, with interactive exercises that assess attention, reaction speed, and memory. Fitness stops being just physical output and becomes something closer to full-system performance. Once the tests are complete, the results are processed by Technogym AI Coach, the brand's AI digital trainer. This is where the machine moves from diagnosis to direction. The data is translated into a personalised training protocol based on your goals, needs, and current condition. Instead of being handed a generic programme, you get a plan built around your own starting point. The phrase that will probably stay with most people is Wellness Age. Technogym Checkup calculates an age that reflects your physical and functional condition. It is clever because everyone understands age, and slightly brutal because nobody wants to be told they are older than they feel. The numbers are not flattering. That is exactly why they are useful. Something is clarifying about seeing your body translated back to you without the usual emotional editing. If your mobility needs work, the system says so. If your balance is weaker than expected, there it is. If your functional condition does not match the version of yourself you carry around in your head, the gap becomes visible. The stronger idea behind the Checkup is that the programme is not fixed. According to Technogym, the training protocol can adapt over time as your body changes and as you move closer to your goals. A useful plan should not behave as though the person following it never evolves. The results also live inside the Technogym Ecosystem, which means the programme can follow you across different settings: the gym, home, a hotel, the workplace, or even alongside a doctor. That could easily sound like a corporate promise, but the appeal is simple. Modern wellness is scattered. People train between flights, meetings, home routines, hotel gyms, and half-kept intentions. Continuity helps the habit survive. Still, the value of Technogym Checkup is not that it makes fitness more digital. We have enough screens. Its value is that it makes the starting point harder to ignore. It gives shape to the things we usually guess at. It turns vague concerns into usable information. Of course, AI does not replace a good trainer. A machine can measure, compare, recommend, and remember. A trainer can read hesitation, fatigue, confidence, and form in real time. The best use of Checkup is not as a substitute for human expertise, but as a sharper first conversation. For beginners, that could make the gym less overwhelming. Walking into a fitness space without direction can feel like entering a room where everyone else already knows the rules. A clear assessment gives structure. For people who already train, it can reveal the neglected parts: the mobility you skipped, the balance you assumed was fine, the endurance that quietly slipped. What I liked most is that it does not sell a fantasy of instant transformation. It offers something more grounded, and maybe more uncomfortable: awareness. In a fitness culture obsessed with motivation, Checkup is interested in evidence. That evidence may not flatter you. Good. That is where the useful work begins.

The space flows naturally… by Khadija Husain 27 May 2025 Walking into Jardin Des Arts feels like stepping into a friend's beautifully designed home rather than a typical Dubai restaurant. The space flows naturally between indoor comfort and outdoor charm, with soft lighting that makes everyone look good and furniture that actually invites you to settle in for the evening. Located at The Address Montgomerie in Emirates Hills, this latest venture from Gates Hospitality builds on their success with Bistro Des Arts while creating something distinctly its own. The restaurant captures that effortless French approach to dining where good food and relaxed conversation take center stage. The design strikes the right balance between polished and comfortable. Large windows frame views of the lake outside, while carefully chosen artwork adds personality without overwhelming the space. The terrace seating takes full advantage of Dubai's perfect weather months, creating an outdoor dining experience that feels both sophisticated and relaxed. Fresh flowers throughout the restaurant aren't just decoration—they're part of the philosophy. Everything here feels alive and welcoming, from the staff who genuinely seem happy to see you to the attention paid to details like properly warmed bread plates and glasses that never sit empty. The menu reads like a love letter to French cuisine, but the execution shows real understanding of what makes these dishes work. Starting with the Salade de Tomates Anciennes, you immediately taste the difference that quality ingredients make. These aren't supermarket tomatoes—they're the kind that actually taste like tomatoes, with sweetness and acidity that builds with each bite. The preserved lemon adds just enough brightness without overpowering, while crisp radish provides the perfect textural contrast. The Filet De Wagyu arrives cooked exactly as ordered, with a proper sear that locks in juices while maintaining that perfect pink interior. The meat is tender enough to cut with a fork, releasing rich, beefy flavors that justify the premium price. The accompanying ratatouille tastes like it's been simmering all day, with vegetables that have melded together while maintaining their individual character. The potato mousseline is impossibly smooth and light—the kind of side dish that makes you understand why French cuisine has such a reputation for technique. For those wanting something more familiar, the Cordon Bleu elevates comfort food to restaurant-quality dining. The chicken breast stays moist and flavorful, while the Mornay sauce adds richness without heaviness. It's executed with enough skill to remind you why classics become classics. Filet D'agneau The Filet D'agneau showcases the kitchen's confidence with more adventurous flavors. The lamb is cooked to perfect medium-rare, with a slight gaminess that lamb lovers appreciate. The hibiscus purée might sound unusual, but it works beautifully—adding floral notes that complement rather than compete with the meat. Fresh figs provide natural sweetness, while the foie gras jus adds luxury without going overboard. Too often, side dishes feel like afterthoughts, but Jardin Des Arts treats them with the same care as the mains. The Patates Douces with salted plum crème fraîche is genuinely creative—sweet potato's natural earthiness enhanced by the tangy, slightly funky crème fraîche. Beef speck adds smoky depth that ties everything together. Even the Frites Maison stand out. Hand-cut and perfectly crispy outside while fluffy inside, they're the kind of fries that disappear faster than you intended. The Ganache Fondante Au Chocolat delivers exactly what chocolate lovers want—rich, warm, and intense without being overwhelming. The cherry sorbet provides the perfect palate cleanser between bites, its tartness balancing the chocolate's richness. Tarte Tatin The Tarte Tatin represents French pastry at its finest. The apples are perfectly caramelized, the pastry crisp, and the crème cru ice cream adds just enough cooling contrast. It's the kind of dessert that makes you understand why the French take their sweets seriously. The daily cheese selection shows real curation rather than just importing whatever's available. Each cheese is served at proper temperature with appropriate accompaniments. The service team strikes that perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive. They know the menu well enough to answer questions without consulting notes, and the timing between courses allows for conversation without long waits. Water glasses stay filled, bread appears when needed, and they seem to genuinely enjoy talking about the food they're serving. It's the kind of service that makes you feel taken care of without feeling rushed. What makes Jardin Des Arts work isn't just one element—it's how everything comes together. The food is excellent, but so is the atmosphere. The service is professional, but also warm. The prices reflect the quality without feeling exploitative. Dr. Naim Maadad's vision of creating "honest, delicious and memorable food experiences" comes through clearly. This isn't about Instagram moments or flashy presentations—it's about the simple pleasure of excellent food in a beautiful setting. Jardin Des Arts earns its place in Dubai's competitive dining landscape by doing classic French cuisine properly while creating an atmosphere that encourages lingering. The food quality justifies the prices, the service makes you feel welcomed, and the setting provides genuine escape from the city's intensity.
