Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers impacting women globally. While advancements in detection, treatment, and patient outcomes are… by Khadija Husain 7 Oct 2024 Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers impacting women globally. While advancements in detection, treatment, and patient outcomes are remarkable, the need for consistent awareness and education continues to be critical. To bring this important issue into focus, we sat down with Dr. Mona Algak, a Family Medicine Specialist at Aspen Medical, who provided insightful perspectives on the latest developments in breast cancer care, prevention, and the role early detection plays in saving lives. Early Detection At the heart of breast cancer management is early detection. When asked about the most effective methods, Dr. Algak underscored the importance of routine screenings, particularly mammograms. “According to NICE guidelines, women aged 50-70 are offered mammograms every three years as part of the breast screening program. After 70, although automatic screenings are no longer available, women are encouraged to book their own appointments to continue this crucial preventive care,” explains Dr. Algak. Mammograms remain the gold standard for early detection, allowing for the identification of abnormalities long before they become palpable. Dr. Algak recommends that women consult their healthcare providers to determine the appropriate frequency of screenings, particularly those with risk factors such as a family history of breast cancer. Early diagnosis through mammograms can significantly improve survival rates, reinforcing the vital role of regular screening. Treatments Recent years have ushered in a new era in breast cancer treatment, marked by significant breakthroughs in targeted therapies and immunotherapy. These advancements have notably transformed patient outcomes, particularly for women with HER2-positive breast cancer. “Targeted therapies focus on blocking specific proteins that control the growth and spread of cancer cells,” shares Dr. Algak. “For example, treatments for HER2-positive cancers have dramatically increased survival rates over the past decade. Additionally, immunotherapy, which harnesses the body’s immune system to combat cancer, is becoming a powerful tool in breast cancer treatment.” These advancements allow for more personalized treatment plans, improving survival rates while reducing the severe side effects associated with traditional methods like chemotherapy and radiation. Diagnosis & Emotional Well-being Receiving a breast cancer diagnosis is often a life-altering experience, affecting both physical and emotional health. Dr. Algak provides essential advice to women who are navigating this challenging time, emphasizing a well-rounded, informed approach to treatment. “It’s critical to fully understand the diagnosis—the type and stage of breast cancer—as this determines the treatment path,” she explains. “Discuss all available options, from surgery to chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and targeted therapies, so you can make informed decisions that align with your needs.” Beyond medical treatments, Dr. Algak stresses the importance of addressing emotional well-being. “Building a strong support system—whether through family, friends, or support groups—can provide emotional comfort during this difficult time,” she advises. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other forms of counseling can also help manage the emotional toll of the diagnosis. Dr. Algak advocates for stress-relief techniques like meditation and yoga, paired with a comprehensive survivorship plan created with healthcare professionals, as essential components to help women face their journey with resilience and confidence. Prevention Measures Preventing breast cancer is a crucial part of empowering women to take control of their health. Dr. Algak outlines several proactive steps that can reduce breast cancer risk.“Maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in regular physical activity, and limiting alcohol intake are all key lifestyle changes,” she notes. “Breastfeeding, reducing hormone replacement therapy (HRT), quitting smoking, and adhering to regular screenings and self-exams can further lower risk.” Breast cancer through early detection, and the latest treatment options are pivotal in empowering women to take charge of their health. With the combination of cutting-edge medical advancements and a holistic approach to well-being, women today are better prepared than ever to meet the challenges of breast cancer head-on—with strength, hope, and resilience.

On Thursday, 16 October, the restaurant presents Many Hands – Platters of Tradition , a one-night-only dining experience curated by two culinary visionaries — Chef Akmal Anuar and Chef Khaled Alsaadi. Priced at AED 285 per person, the evening invites guests to gather around a shared table for an expressive journey of flavours and heritage. Offered in two seatings (6 pm and 9 pm), the set menu is designed as a cohesive composition, prepared and served “many-hands style” a symbolic gesture of unity that brings together both chefs’ Arab roots through a refined Japanese lens. The evening opens with Maraq , a rich meat-based soup with shrimp wontons and onions, followed by Smoked Eggplant and Bukhari Rice presented nigiri-style, and a Harissa and Walnut Dip paired with soft Shokupan bread. At its heart lies a whole lamb — a centrepiece reimagined across several dishes that explore diverse cooking methods and interpretations: Honey-Glazed Lamb Ribs with Smoked Furikake , Sticky Teriyaki Lamb Shank , Lamb Skewers , Lamb Floss with Majboos Spices , and Fahsa , a slow-cooked stew rooted in Arabian tradition. Sides such as Mushroom and Okra Bamia and Zurbian Rice complement the spread, while dessert brings a gentle close with Cinnamon Butter Pound Cake served alongside Honey Ice Cream and Sidr Honey . “ Many Hands is about more than food; it’s about connection. When chefs cook together, ideas move freely, techniques merge, and something deeply human happens around the table, ” shares Chef Akmal Anuar. “ Our cuisine carries memory, family, and place. Many Hands lets us bring that spirit to the table, together, through craft and respect, ” adds Chef Khaled Alsaadi. Chef Akmal, revered for his minimalist precision and artistry, has spent over two decades shaping the region’s dining scene through acclaimed, Michelin-recognised concepts such as Goldfish Sushi & Yakitori, Harummanis, and Funkcoolio. Chef Khaled, an Emirati culinary artist celebrated for reinterpreting local cuisine with modern finesse, brings his global experience from kitchens like Nobu, Hakkasan, Ossiano, and Bread Street Kitchen. • You Don't Need Another Pair of Sunglasses Except This One

Persol's latest pair is designed to outlast trend cycles entirely, built for those done buying sunglasses that expire by next summer. You Don't Need Another Pair of Sunglasses Except This One Persol's latest pair is designed to outlast trend cycles entirely, built for those done buying sunglasses that expire by next summer. by Amal Riyah 20 May 2026 Let's be honest. You already own sunglasses. Probably too many. There's the pair you bought because they were everywhere last summer. The ones that came with the holiday outfit. The "investment" pair you convinced yourself was worth it because of the logo on the temple. They all live in a drawer somewhere, slightly scratched, slowly becoming irrelevant. Because that's what trend-driven sunglasses do. They expire. And every single season, the fashion machine asks you to start over. Persol was born in Turin in 1917. Not to be fashionable, but to protect the eyes of pilots and racing drivers from the brutal Italian sun. The name itself is a compression of per il sole — for the sun. Functional. Direct. Italian. And for over a century, that's exactly what the brand has remained. No celebrity co-sign built Persol's legend — cool simply found them. When Steve McQueen walked onto the set of The Thomas Crown Affair in 1968, he was wearing his own personal pair. The producers took one look and kept them in the film. That's the Persol story. Not chasing cool. Being it. The PO3396S belongs to Persol's Officina line — Italian for workshop. Not a collection. Not a campaign. A workshop. The name alone tells you everything about the philosophy: this frame was constructed with purpose before aesthetics entered the conversation. The frame is cellulose acetate — a naturally derived material that goes through thirty manual processes before it becomes what you hold in your hands. Not plastic. Not polycarbonate. Acetate. The hypoallergenic kind, which feels warm against your skin, develops a patina over the years of wear. The kind that gets better with time. The lenses are real glass — Barberini® glass, to be precise. In a world where every brand has switched to lighter, cheaper polycarbonate, Persol still insists on glass because glass gives you something plastic simply cannot: optical clarity that makes everything else feel slightly compromised. And then there's the Arrow. Inspired by the swords of ancient warriors, the Supreme Arrow hinge sits at the temple joint of every single Persol frame ever made. It's not decorative. It's structural. It's been there since the 1930s. It will be there long after every other trend has moved on. Right now, the sunglasses market is at peak volume. Oversized shields. Neon lenses. Logo temples so large they double as billboards. Every major house is competing for the most dramatic frame on the shelf. And into all of that noise, the PO3396S arrives — clean, rectangular, stripped of spectacle— and makes every other pair in the room feel exhausting. The person who finds the PO3396S isn't browsing. They've already been through the trends. They've bought the it-frame and watched it age badly. They arrive at Persol the way people arrive at good tailoring — not looking for something new, but finally looking for something right. You don't need another pair of sunglasses. But if you're going to own one pair that you'll still be reaching for in ten years — one pair that asks nothing of the moment it's in — it's the PO3396S. Some things were never meant to be fashionable. Style ages. Character settles in

Opera Gallery’s Director, Sylvain Gaillard, shares his excitement about the collaboration: “This particular collaboration has been very exciting because it stems from an organic discussion with ExecuJet. The gallery was involved from the very beginning, and we instantly knew that the art elements would elevate the entire experience. With this curated selection of artists and works, we’ve created a high-quality panorama of contemporary art that resonates with the shared guest profiles of both Opera Gallery and ExecuJet.” Beyond the art itself, the ExecuJet terminal is a work of art in its own right. Designed by architect Gregory Gatserelia and enhanced by renowned designer Nada Debs, the terminal exudes exclusivity with its stunning blend of contemporary architecture and Middle Eastern influences. Luxurious Italian furnishings from Giorgetti, Minotti, and Poltrona Frau further elevate the space, creating an atmosphere of sophisticated comfort where guests feel both at home and inspired. Every detail, from plush seating to ambient lighting, is designed to enhance the passenger experience, making each moment at the terminal feel extraordinary. For ExecuJet Middle East, this collaboration is a milestone in their commitment to offering more than just private flights but curated experiences that redefine luxury travel. By merging fine art with aviation, the company has created a space where the boundaries between art and travel blur, offering a refined, elevated experience for the discerning traveller. This unprecedented collaboration between ExecuJet and Opera Gallery represents a new frontier in luxury travel. As the world of private aviation continues to evolve, this initiative stands out as a shining example of how cultural sophistication can be seamlessly integrated into the travel experience. With every brushstroke, every sculpture, and every detail of the terminal, ExecuJet and Opera Gallery have created an experience that promises to inspire and elevate the journeys of those who are fortunate enough to pass through this extraordinary space.

  • Coffeemania: Moscow’s Cult Café Arrives at Dubai Hills Mall

Coffeemania, Moscow's cult café, opens its first UAE outpost at Dubai Hills Mall — here's the menu, the famous Raf coffee and everything to expect. Coffeemania: Moscow’s Cult Café Arrives at Dubai Hills Mall Coffeemania, Moscow's cult café, opens its first UAE outpost at Dubai Hills Mall — here's the menu, the famous Raf coffee and everything to expect. by Sienna Vale 25 Nov 2025 Coffeemania, a name long woven into Moscow’s dining culture, is opening its first international outpost, and Dubai is its chosen starting point. The restaurant will open on 28 November 2025 at Dubai Hills Mall, bringing its familiar blend of refined comfort food and coffee craft to the UAE. For more than two decades, Coffeemania has held a steady place in Russia’s dining scene. Known for approachable dishes prepared with a certain precision, it has built a reputation that sits somewhere between casual dining and something more considered. The Dubai opening marks a new chapter for the brand as it steps into a city that understands design, food, and the pleasure of spending time well. Coffeemania’s menu arrives with many of the dishes that shaped its identity. Expect the straightforward staples such as a clean Caesar, an Olivier done the traditional way, and the Pozharsky cutlet that regulars swear by. Beef Stroganoff and other comfort-heavy plates round out the selection. The pastry section, led by Head Pastry Chef Elena Zheleznyakova, brings a more delicate touch. Her layered Honey Cake (Smetannik) remains one of the brand’s most recognised desserts and will feature on the Dubai menu. Coffee still sits at the heart of the experience. As the birthplace of the original Raf, Coffeemania keeps its approach simple and exacting. Beans are roasted in-house, and the drinks are prepared by baristas trained through its long-established coffee programme, ensuring each cup stays consistent and traceable from start to finish. The 500 m² space has been designed by Studio APAA under lead designer Alexey Penyuk. The interior leans into warm woods, soft natural stone, and a restrained palette that complements the large Murano glass installation by Hannes Peer suspended overhead. Gio Ponti-inspired mosaic flooring and touches of Carrara marble and Breccia stone give the room a subtle texture without overwhelming the space. Custom seating, Italian leather details, and lighting by names such as Charlotte Perriand add a quiet sense of craft. The result is a room that feels polished but relaxed. A place intended for unhurried visits rather than quick stops. Coffeemania has also partnered with RARARES Gallery to introduce rotating works from both regional and international artists. Pieces by Tatiana Chursina, Ruslan Gudiev, and Emirati artist Fatma Lootah will be part of the opening curation, giving the restaurant an added cultural layer. Behind the kitchen is Brand Chef Alexey Petrichenko, whose experience spans Michelin-starred restaurants in France and Sweden. The coffee programme is overseen by Gleb Neveykin who is the creator of the original Raf Coffee, along with long-time specialists Irina Puzachkova and Varvara Stukalo. Their combined experience shapes what the brand hopes will be a familiar yet elevated version of the dining room it built back home. Coffeemania’s arrival in Dubai signals the start of its wider international expansion. For Dubai Hills Mall, it adds a new all-day dining option anchored in consistency, craftsmanship, and a calm approach to hospitality. Location: Ground Floor, Entrance 1, Dubai Hills Mall Opening: 28 November 2025
